Lijiang Impression Show

IMG_9402

This is an entertaining 1 hour show set in an open air dome-like theatre in Lijiang, Yunnan Province, China

IMG_9404

There is singing & dancing that showcases the diverse cultures of the minority peoples of the People’s Republic of China

IMG_9405

I like the music which was dramatic at most times interspersed with a few hauntingly beautiful songs

IMG_9407

The magnificent Jade Dragon Snow Mountain serves as the backdrop of this musical extravaganza

IMG_9409

A peripheral track runs on top of the dome

IMG_9410

The cast is made up of Lisuo, Bai, Dai, Naxi, Mosuo & Han peoples

IMG_9411

This grand scaled outdoor performance features a large cast of as many as 200 people

IMG_9412

Lijiang Impression is the brainchild of famous Chinese film director Zhang Yimou, who incidentally also choregraphed the Beijing Olympics in 2008

IMG_9413

The 360 degrees stage is unique in that it is built in a high altitude venue & is at the foot of a mountain

IMG_9415

A slow march up this interestingly tiered stage

IMG_9416

The music, the cast, the background, the costumes, the sun & the cold air ~ makes this a sensory feast

IMG_9417

The crowds let out a gasp, as the horsemen make their sudden entry into the dome

IMG_9419

Galloping round the dome

IMG_9420

Posing for the adoring crowd

IMG_9422

Acrobatic horsemen

IMG_9425

Their costumes vary according to their different tribes

IMG_9426

Love their colourful costumes & diversity

IMG_9427

The tribal songs they sing are usually in the pentatonic scale

IMG_9428

A quiet moment as they sing a tribal song in acapella

IMG_9429

Love this segment best, when the drummers made their way amongst the spectators

IMG_9430

A powerful & mesmerizing drum performance towards the end of the show
