Picturesque Diexi Lake is situated in Mao County in the Aba Tibetan & Qiang Prefecture

The Min River flows through this region & Diexi Lake covers about 3.5sq km

This area which is situated at the foot of Minshan Mountains, had to be rebuilt as the old town of Diexi was devastated in a massive earthquake killing about 9000 people & the town sank into what is now, Diexi Lake

This lake is a landslide dam-created lake caused by the 1933 Diexi Earthquake that measured 7.5 on the Richter scale

The Minjiang (Min River) in Central Szechuan is a tributary of the upper Yangtze River & runs for some 735km

Maoxian County is home to the largest number of Qiang minority people in West China. Their recorded history dates back as far as the Shang Dynasty (1600-1046B.C.)
